Heat Pumps: Pros & Cons
*Installation: Furnaces require an extensive ventilation system so if you’re home doesn’t already accommodate this, then it can be much more expensive.
*Efficiency: Electric heat pumps are usually significantly more energy efficient than gas-operated furnaces.
*Monthly Cost: Usually, electricity rates are lower than natural gas.
*Sound: Furnaces usually make more noise than heat pumps.
*Safety. There is no risk of carbon monoxide poisoning with the use of a heat pump.
*Effectiveness. In periods of extremely cold weather, a heat pump is not as effective at heating a home.
Gas Furnaces: Pros and Cons
*Lifespan: Gas furnaces usually last longer than heat pumps.
*Fewer Parts: A gas furnace has fewer mechanical parts than a heat pump so that usually means fewer things to break down.
*Safety: A gas leak could result in an explosion or fire.
*Cleanliness: Gas combustion can result in poor indoor air quality.
