When we’re in the heat of things, we often forget what’s making us able to weather the summer. Your A/C might be working over time right now but with vacations and outdoor fun, it’s probably the last thing on your mind. So we wanted to remind you of 5 tips that will help keep your A/C efficient this summer so you can keep things cool and comfortable.
Check the Filter:
When your A/C is running a majority of the time, we recommend that you check your filter every 30-60 days. If we didn’t come out for your spring service check-up, this is especially important. If you’re not sure how to check your filter or what to look for, give us a call.
Prune it and Hose it Down:
Make sure plants and bushes aren’t growing too close to the outside unit. If they are, make sure you continue to cut things back and keep it ventilated. Also, lawn clippings can start to collect in the unit so a quick hosing down can work wonders. Just put your hose on high-pressure mode and work your way down from top to bottom.
Darken Rooms:
Rooms in your home that are beaten down by the sun during the day can really make your A/C unit work over time and increase your bills. Keep blinds and drapes drawn during the day and you’ll be amazed at how much cooler your home will stay.
Use a Fan:
Ceiling fans can work wonders, especially in rooms that are upstairs. Opening windows at night and utilizing ceiling fans can help cool the house down overnight.
Call us:
If you don’t have a Smart Thermostat or if you haven’t had service check on your unit this year, give us a call and we’ll come out and evaluate your needs.
