3 New Year’s Resolutions for Your Furnace and Heating Systems

Are you a member of the I-Have-Good-Intentions-But-Poor-Follow-Through-With-My-New-Year’s-Resolutions-Club? If so, you are not alone! According to Statisticbrain.com, while 45% of Americans usually make a New Years Resolution, only 8% are successful in achieving their resolutions. We think it’s time to join that 8% and set some resolutions that are simple, healthy and attainable so you can set the pace for 2016! Here are 3 New Year’s Resolutions for Your Furnace and Heating Systems.

New Year’s Resolution #1- Get (your heating system) in Shape

Getting in shape, losing weight and exercising are the top resolutions for Americans with over a third of the population hoping to achieve the same dream. When it comes to your heating and cooling system, this resolution can easily apply. If your furnace or heating unit is old, out of shape, huffing-and-puffing or sluggish it is time for our Furnace Clean & Check. This annual check-up can get your furnace headed back towards health. We test, inspect, clean and check the unit to make sure it is running in tip top shape. This budget-friendly check up can help keep your furnace running efficiently through the new year.

New Year’s Resolution #2- Save More Money

I know what you are thinking…how in the world can my furnace help me save money? Last month we discussed some signs that may mean it’s time to replace your furnace and those go right along with this resolution. If your furnace or heating system is more than 10-15 years old, it probably has an annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) of 56-70%. Because of this lower AFUE, your heating unit is not very efficient and is costing you money. As the unit ages, it needs to run longer to maintain the same amount of heat which will cause your gas and electric bills to steadily increase. With regular maintenance by a certified tech, you can help increase the life of your heating system. If the unit is nearing the end of its life, we can help you choose a budget-friendly, high-efficiency furnace with an AFUE of 90-98.5% and that, will save you a lot of money!

New Year’s Resolution #3- Reduce Your Environmental Footprint

This one may seem a little intimidating but it can be accomplished in just a few simple steps. By reducing your environmental footprint, you are helping to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide your everyday activities produce. This is good for you and the planet! This can be done by:

  • Signing up for paperless billing for your electric or gas furnace
  • Set up an energy audit of your home. You can receive cash rebates from KCPL through their home Performance with Energy Star program that gives you up to a $600 rebate if you hire a certified contractor to audit your home for energy improvement recommendations. This could help you find ways to save energy consumption in your home and save you money.
  • Upgrade to a more energy efficient unit and receive tax credits that help lower your tax debt. The newer unit saves you money on your utility bills and saves you at tax time too.
